Belinda Chayko is an award-winning writer and director of film and television.

Belinda was the co-creator and showrunner on the series FIRES, which won the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award (AACTA) for Best Miniseries and the TV Week Silver Logie for Most Outstanding Miniseries. Belinda was also the co-creator and showrunner on SAFE HARBOUR, winner of the 2019 International Emmy for best Television Series; the AACTA Award for Best Screenplay in Television; and the Silver Bird Prize at the Seoul International Drama Awards. SAFE HARBOUR was also nominated for eight AACTAs, winning two including Best Screenplay, and five LOGIEs, winning one.

Most recently, Belinda wrote on the Netflix Australian drama series THE SURVIVORS, which will take place in 2024.THE SURVIVORS is adapted from Australian best-selling author Jane Harper’s novel by the award-winning team at Tony Ayres Productions (Fires, Clickbait, Stateless), which is backed by Matchbox Pictures and Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Her other recent writing credits for television include PROSPER, currently streaming on Stan, as well the mini-series STATELESS (ABC), starring Cate Blanchett and Dominic West, which earned her an Australian Writers Guild Award (AWGIE) nomination for Best Series; a C21 Media Award Nomination for Best International Miniseries and a Screen Producers Award for Best TV Miniseries. Belinda wrote on two seasons of the political drama SECRET CITY (Foxtel), starring Jacki Weaver and Anna Torv; FIGHTING SEASON (Foxtel) which earned Belinda an AWGIE nomination; and the miniseries BARRACUDA, which won her an AWGIE Award in 2017. Belinda’s other television credits include OLD SCHOOL (ABC) for Matchbox Pictures, and NEWTON’S LAW and the hugely popular MISS FISHER’S MURDER MYSTERIES (ABC) for Every Cloud Productions.

Belinda’s feature film LOU, which she wrote and directed, starred John Hurt and screened in competition at a number of international film festivals, including Busan, Rome and Palm Springs. LOU won the Audience Award for Best Feature at the Festival International de Films de Femmes de Créteil, and the Grand Jury Prize at the St Tropez Film Festival. Her directorial debut feature, CITY LOOP, premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in 2000.

Belinda has also made a number of award-winning short films and wrote the AWGIE Award-winning telemovie, SAVED (SBS).
