Sarah Spillane’s debut feature film Around The Block (starring Christina Ricci and Jack Thompson) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 and was released internationally in 2014. Sarah won several awards for Around The Block including an Australian Director’s Guild Award and an award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Direction’ at the Newport Beach Film Festival in California.
Sarah has a one-hour TV drama series in development with Jay Firestone and Prodigy Pictures, for which she has co-written the pilot. Sarah will direct the pilot and show run the series. Furthermore, Sarah’s original concept has been adapted into a graphic novel and comic book series which was recently released by Joe Books Inc.
Sarah is attached to direct the feature film True Spirit for Sunstar Entertainment, based on the true story of Jessica Watson, the youngest person to complete a southern hemisphere solo circumnavigation. She has also co-written and is attached to direct Abe starring Finn Wittrock and Juno Temple (producer Deborah Del Prete). Sarah is also in development on the feature film adaptation of the Diane Jessup novel The Dog Who Spoke With Gods with Mavern Pictures, is attached to direct NOLA, a feature film in development with Judy Fox and is developing a high concept trilogy Amazon with Gilles Arondeau and Ivan Gulas. She has optioned the novel The Body Reader by Anne Fraiser which she is developing into a series and is attached to adapt Destination: Morgue! by James Ellroy for television.
Sarah has directed hours of television for Australia’s National Indigenous Television Network and multiple Australian television commercials. Sarah divides her time between Australia and LA, however she is consistently creating quality film, television and digital content in all corners of the globe.
