Nicholas VersoScreenwriter | Director

Nicholas Verso is an Australian writer/director. His short film, The Last Time I Saw Richard, won the AACTA and was honoured by the Academie des Cesar in Paris. It showcased his passion for stories involving mental health, GLBTIQ+ issues and youth culture.

Nicholas’ debut feature film Boys In The Trees, made its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival before screening at festivals around the world including Toronto, Busan, Sitges and winning Best Feature at the Austin Film Festival. It’s now available to stream internationally. He is currently in development on his next feature The Surface of Venus as well as projects for Stampede Ventures and Truant Pictures.

In 2019, Nicholas won an Australian Director’s Guild Award for his work directing the indigenous series, Grace Beside Me. He recently completed his first original series as creator – Crazy Fun Park – a horror-comedy for the ABC premiering in 2023. Nick is currently in development on Invisible Boys for Stan and projects for Endemol Shine and Truce Films. His other television work includes directing the Syfy Christmas horror Toys Of Terror, the BAFTA and Emmy award-winning Nowhere Boys, The Unlisted and Itch.

As a director, Nicholas has attended the Berlinale Talent Campus, Binger FilmLab Directors Coaching Programme (Amsterdam), trained with Song Of The Goat theatre company (Poland), was awarded an Asialink Arts Fellowship to work in robotics labs in Beijing and became a Churchill Fellow to study show running practices in the USA and UK.
