Lucas Callaghan started his career as an Art director for World’s End Film Company and a documentary filmmaker for Guinness entertainment at Fox Studios. In 2006 Lucas started a furniture business with $400. His eye for design allowed him to amass an impressive collection of post war 20th Century collectables. His first shop was a garage on Bondi Road which he converted into an eye catching and inviting space. Within a year Lucas had designed and fitted out four stores across Sydney; 224 Bondi Road; 733 New South Head Road, Rosebay; Mitchell Road Antique Centre, Alexandria; and Penny Arcade in Foster Street Surry Hills (partnership w/ M Bracewell).
In 2009 he consolidated these stores into an 800sqm warehouse. This venture became Modern2vintage, combining 20th century furnishings, a props hire business and small bar/cafe loading dock café. The café was created out of a 40ft by 25ft loading dock and became a popular inner city hang out. Lucas recently did the interiors for the Forest Lodge Hotel and is currently working on the interiors for The Riley Street Garage for Brody Petersen. Most recently he has been introducing Australia to his picking skills on Aussie Pickers on Foxtel’s A&E. The series is nominated for Most Outstanding General Entertainment Program at the 2014 ASTRA Awards.
