Indigenous writer Jon Bell hails from the town of Casino on the North Coast of NSW. Jon created and wrote the 2013 drama series The Gods of Wheat Street with Every Cloud Productions for ABC’s Indigenous unit. He is passionate about telling Indigenous stories, something which is reflected in his other television credits, which include both series of Redfern Now, Ready For This, The Warriors, and Cleverman, which won the 2016 SPA Award for Best Drama Production. Jon is currently in development on a number of film and television projects as both a writer and Indigenous script consultant.
Jon wrote and directed the short film The Chuck In, a ten minute short film supported through Screen Australia’s short film initiative: FLASH BLACK. The Chuck In screened at the Sydney Film Festival and the ImagiNative Film Festival in Toronto. His other short film credits include And Justice for One, made with a budget of $2000 and produced by Lois Randall; and Two Big Boys produced by Kath Shelper and supported through Screen Australia’s initiative A Bit of Black Business.
