As development manager in the drama department of ABC TV, Greg Waters was network script executive on Paper Giants, Crownies, Janet King, Devil’s Dust, The Straits, Hiding, Dangerous Remedy, The Secret River, and Anzac Girls; and was executive producer on An Accidental Soldier, Soul Mates, and Rake. Since leaving the ABC, he has written and script produced Secret City, and was series producer on the second season of Soul Mates. More recently, Greg has written for The Other Guy (EOne/Aquarius), Holy Cow (See Pictures) and Riot (Werner Film Productions); and script produced for The Letdown and The Other Guy.
Greg’s television career began after he completed an MA in Screenwriting at AFTRS following his work in politics as an advisor to the NSW Deputy Premier and a Councillor for City of South Sydney. He then went on to forge a career as a writer, script editor and script producer across a wide variety of adult drama programmes including: Fireflies; The Alice and Out of the Blue. He has also written, script edited and produced a number of multi-award-winning children’s drama series including Dance Academy , My Place and Ready For This. Greg’s extensive work as a television writer is complemented by his work as a script editor on feature films Accidents Happen and The Final Winter, and as a writer of short films The Uncertainty Principle, Charmed Robbery and Clutch, which screened at numerous festivals including Montreal, Sydney and San Francisco.
Greg has taught screenwriting at NIDA Open and the NSW Writer’s Centre, and has spent many years working with emerging screenwriters to develop their early projects.
