Dave Paterson is a self-taught, up-and-coming writer/director whose distinctive voice, unique sense of humour and particular way with dialogue led to his first professional writing assignment with Hopscotch Films/eOne.
Dave is currently in development on several feature projects. He won the UK Film Festival competition for his unproduced feature script Cottontail, a crime thriller road movie following two cousins who travel to California, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. He recently provided additional writing on Seth Larney’s sci-fi thriller 2067 for Leonie Mansfield and Lisa Shaunessy. His screenplay Peace in the Valley, a Tarantino-esque comedy thriller, is also in development, with Catriona McKenzie attached to direct.
Dave has written and directed two short films: Butcherbird, a love story which follows John, an ex-con who falls for an addict and tries to save her; and short documentary, boné, a film about a Newtown man who has spent most of his adult life in jail.
Dave began his career working under Executive Producer Ean Thorley on projects such as The YouTube Symphony Orchestra and the ASTRA Awards where he was promoted to write for the ASTRA Awards. In 2011, his unproduced feature script Rattle earned him a Bronze Award at the Oregon Film Awards, was shortlisted for the E-Inclusion Award at the European Independent Film Festival and was a finalist for the Screenplay Competition at the Beverly Hills Film Festival the following year.
