Damian Hill originally trained as an actor at the Victorian College of the Arts, whose alumni include Elizabeth Debicki (The Night Manager, The Great Gatsby), director Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde) and Oscar-winning animator Adam Elliot (Harvey Crumpet). After graduating he worked overseas, before returning to form Frank Theatre Company in Melbourne. As a performer, he has appeared in various films and television productions including The Leftovers, Fell and The Broken Shore.
During the final year of his Masters of Screenwriting (also at VCA), he wrote his first feature film Pawno, which he co-produced and starred in. In 2016, Damian was nominated for an Australian Academy Award (AACTA) for Best Original Screenplay and Best Lead Actor in a Feature Film for Pawno. The film also garnered Australian Film Critics Circle and Film Critics Circle of Australia nominations for Best Original Screenplay in 2017. Pawno premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2015.
